Burner malfunction

I turned one of the burners on my stove on and flames were coming out by the knobs. 3 of the 4 burners appear to operate fine. Any ideas how to fix this?

1 - get a new hob (stove top)
2 - turn off the propane at the tanks, then remove the top of the stove (it probably is on hinges and will just fold backwards) then Thoroughly clean everything. You might have years of built up grease and sugar spills which can block the burners, gas channels, pilot lights etc. On many home stovetops with four burners, whole burner assemblies can be taken out in pairs of two - and scrubbed in the sink. Years ago when I was a renter I was always amazed at how a seemingly clean apartment could have a stove top with so much vomitous YUCK under the cover. Cleaning a stove can really improve it's performance.

Use pipe cleaners to clean out the holes in the burners. A very small bottle brush may be helpful too. If you spot corrosion or heat damage that compromises the piping, etc.... it's probably going to be impossible to find parts that old... and I'd personally go for a new hob.

If you see no damage, once everything is thoroughly clean and completely dry (hair dryer helps) reassemble and CAREFULLY test with minimum gas. Use a match to light a LOW flame. If the problems persist, turn it off and call Lewster or some other pro.

i seem to recall that there are seals or grease used to seal the control knob shafts. i suspect someone here will post about that and confirm or deny my thoughts :-)
