Absolutely. The assumption is that the fridge will be cooled via propane while the fridge's controls (thermostat, etc.) will consume some energy from the battery.

The general consensus from those who have done it for 3 days and more seems to be, "Yes, and maybe even longer."

I was being more cautious because (1) I've not tried it for more than a couple of days and (2) the capacity of our stock batteries is a frequent concern whenever we boondock.

The original post below says, in pertinent part, that the fridge would be running on propane.

So, just an update: yesterday I saw 12.4V on the meter, I'm guessing they weren't as fully charged as I thought.

Anyway, this morning I had 12.0V. So I'm not sure I'll get to Wednesday morning. I'm going for a long drive tomorrow to give it a boost so hopefully I'll be ok.

Thanks again; I'm continually impressed how helpful this forum is.

Rich

PS for those wondering, we had a chance to spend three days in Vegas at short notice, but I had to put the RV out in the Nevada sun.

We put a switch in the power wire to the sub woofer power since it was on all the time as a parasite power hog.

Not sure what loads you have had on your batteries but they seem to be dropping pretty fast to these eyes. Are you sure no other 12v items are on, like the lights in the storage compartments? You might want to check the battery water level in each cell, and test each with a hydrometer. Your new AS may have not been stored correctly by the dealer before purchase, and it is possible the batteries were compromised IMO. The fridge control panel does not draw much voltage, as I understand it anyway.

The earlier suggestions of a good cooler with lots of ice (or dry ice?) may be worth the investment. We keep a couple of coolers in the tow vehicle (van with lots of room), and often put the fridge items in the coolers, when needed for situations like this. Ice in bags is available almost everywhere, albeit at a cost.

Good luck!

Peter

PS -- Does switz's comment about the sub-woofer apply to your unit? Also, per an earlier comment, are any hidden AV radio etc. units in Stand By mode and drawing power unbeknownst to you?

PS2 -- May be time to consider a small generator converted to run on propane? We ordered the Yamaha 1000 which is on back order, but you may need the 2000? Those units by US Carburation apparently include the Yamaha OEM warranty.

Will my Fridge last three days on Battery?

Not sure either. ^^^

We're getting out of Vegas tomorrow, so next chance I get, I'll nose around for parasitic drains.

That subwoofer comment sounds interesting. Pretty sure the Clarion boat stereo is off, but I didn't recall we had a subwoofer until now.

Rich

Edit to add: I did find a fused power wire running to the subwoofer today, so I've disconnected that. Hope is if it was drawing power, it will be eliminated as a load.

I've checked everything else on the suggestions above, all are off, save that LP detector.

Actually thinking about it, I've been leaving the store/use switch in the store position lately. It's possible I didn't arrive at the hotel parking lot at 100%. But yeah long term plan is probably a Honda 2kw gennie in the back of the truck, as soon as finances allow.

Had no idea the sub woofer was "always on." That would be a totally lame parasitic draw. Thanks for noting it.

Hope you made out OK with your reefer. We left ours stored and after 4 days the batteries were low enough to cut the reefer off. We hooked up and drove off. I monitored the refrig a few times along the way and it took 4 hrs. of driving for the batteries to get enough ooomph in them to start the refrig. The point here is that expecting batteries to charge while under way is a Slooooooow process.

^^^ Copy that.

Voltage was 11.8 this morning on departure from the hotel. Fridge was fine.

It is my understanding that a voltage of 11.8 damages your batteries. Have you checked the water levels and specific gravity with a hydrometer? Per earlier comments your batteries may have been damaged at the dealer before purchase. Sorry to be repeat this one more time -- over and out on this issue.

Good luck!

Peter

An occasional deep draw to 11.8 VDC will not necessarily damage your batteries, especially if they are fully recharged to 100% in short order.

It might effect their longevity however and the number of charge cycles they will deliver.
