Question Whats going on here???

Okay we are new to this and purchased an 76 airstream...all original.
The Dometic RM-100 fridge will start to cool and stay cool for about 12-24 hours then stop cooling and warms up to room temperature. We tried burping already and all knobs are set on cool.

We are really not that excited to have to buy a new one. So before we throw the old girl out ....does anyone have ideas on troubleshooting?

Is this happening while running on propane or electric? You should try it both ways.

Sounds like the electric heating element is bad. Try it on propane and if it works then all you need to do is install a new electric heating element. Check out this web site for trouble shooting information and parts like the electric heating element.

We run ours on propane...it's easy...just lay down on the floor open the door (if this is the type style) then flip the toggle switch over to propane depress the red button and hold it...set the thermostat to 4...then flick the longest match in the world thingie and watch for the pilot to ignite down there at the far end- you will see a blue flame about three inches long shooting upwards- hold the red button for a bit longer and let go. Shut the door and get back up and give it a while to start freezing the freezer compartment- you will feel the walls start to chill. Also if you are not getting a spark from the long stricker...it uses flints just like a lighter. It will probably run betteron propane too for that matter, you will see.

out with the old in with the new

Here is a link to a tread I started when i removed the old Dometic RM-100 fridge and replaced it with a new one in my 1976 center bath Sovereign. While I was doing this I also remodeled the kitchen. There are pictures of removing the old one and installing the new one.

Hope this helps
