Vintage 1950s Looking Door for New Refrigerators

While antique shopping a few weeks ago, one of the stores we visited had an antique display for refrigerator magnets. These magnets were displayed on a miniature 1950s style white refrigerator door that was hand crafted. The top and bottom of the door (the curved and rounded portions of the door) were made of regular wood while the remainer of the door was covered with thin metal with the edges bent to provide the curvature needed to maintain the vintage look. The display was incredibly light and I'm sure something like this can be done for those who are unable to find a quality vintage unit or for those who like the features of a modern refrigerator but would like for it to look vintage.

I remember reading a thread here on the Forums about making such a thing but never saw the details. Anyhow, thought I'd pass this along to maybe give others some ideas.

If you look way in the back of this picture you can see the little red fridge. That's a brand new domestic we took the door to a metal shop where they make stainless steel counter tops. They were able to make this great jacket for the door which we had powder coated. the thing looks great, we did have to beef up the latch to keep it closed during towing.
