Vent Opening

So I am not sure where to post this but I will try here. I am replacing the exterior refrigerator vent cover on my 64 Tradewind, and it looks to me like there has never been any screen covering the large opening under the vent cover for the refrigerator. As I was designing a fix to keep the bugs out, it has occurred to me that this may have been done by design. I suppose the screen covering the opening could become clogged over time causing the refrigerator to have trouble venting properly, and this might be a safety issue. Any thoughts?

You'll want a screen there, see what the largest opening screen you can find will fit. Mine came with a screen there, openings were pretty big, about 1/8"x1/8". Keeps the bees out of the fridge compartment. The mud daubers and some wasps kept building nests above it though so I put some window screen in the side openings of the vent cap.
A farm supply or tractor supply may have some bigger mesh screen.
