Andy - That particular motorhome did have a 3 way fridge as original equipment from the factory. Also, the wiring diagram in the 1984 Airstream Motorhome Owners Manual shows a 25 amp fuse on the chassis fuse block that powers the wipers and the refrigerator.
John - First thing I'd do is confirm that the fridge is actually receiving power from the chassis fuse pannel. To do this first check to see if the wipers are working (as I mentioned above the fridge and the wipers are on the same fuse). If they are then you know the fuse isn't blown. Next I'd check the wires at the fridge to see if you are getting power from the chassis fuse block (seperate from the ignitor run) which should come from the coach battery. If you have power on the chassis wires then you know it's the fridge.
Let us know what you find. If power is confirmed someone else on the forum will need to jump in and help with diagnosing the actual refrigerator 12V operation.

Having 12v is not always good. I don't know if it's just coincidence, but the 3 way fridges that I have seen with bad circuit boards have been running on 12v. The 3 way fridge in our Overlander was deliberately left off the 12v feed for cooling.

I did not hook up th 12V in my Flying Cloud either. When I don't have 120V I use propane. I don't want to kill my battery by mistake and then be without that resource to run everything else.
