Still learning how things work

In our outside refrigerator compartment is a small fan. It is an add-on and so why and when does it come on? Help!

Someone added it to provide more air circulation over the fins on the refer. They cool better the more air passes over the fins. Likely has some type of thermal switch that turns it on when it gets hot behind the refer.

Mine is set to come on when the temp of the fins reaches approx. 85 to 90 degrees.
