RM100 flue cleaning?

I've got a '77 Sovereign with the original RM100 fridge...It's a little flaky on cooling for the first day or two, and then, generally, it starts working sorta ok. I'd like to do some routine maintenance on it, especially flue cleaning, since it's probably never been done, but even with the service manual, the procedure is far from clear.
Does anyone have an easy to understand explanation of how to do it....with maybe some pictures of the process? I just don't have any experience with these units and it looks like the service manual assumes some prior knowledge.
