Replacement gaskets for Dometic RM60

The gasket for the freezer on my Dometic RM60 is in bad shape so I called the local RV shop for a replacement and found they are available at a cost of 102.00 including shipping. Is there a suitable substitute or alternative?

I could just add about $500 more and get a new fridge. Not that I want to mess with that.

Anyone whom has dealt with this have advice or want to share their solution?

The one for my RM2800 was $140 so you are getting a deal. On mine, it isn't just a gasket -- there is a magnetic strip embedded in the outer surface that greatly enhances the sealing effort.

I replaced the gasket in my B190 at one point, and I think it was closer to the $140 that n2916s had. It helped the fridge, definitely. It wasn't the easiest to install correctly, I had a few issues with it coming loose but finally got it all working.

I think the test is to put a dollar bill or piece of paper between the gasket and the frame, close the door, and see how hard it is to pull out. No point in replacing it if its not bad.

Our gasket is also loose - a dollar bill wouldn't even hold in most spaces.

Darryl - did you decide to replace your gasket?

Ours is the original 1980 fridge so I think it would definitely make a difference. Now to try to find one!

Now that I found the replacement gasket how do I remove the old one? We have a Dometic RM 100. Others have mentioned screws that hold the gasket in, but we have no screws whatsoever.

I haven't replaced the gasket yet and the fridge is out of service till this is complete. The gasket on mine is totally gone and ice starts to build straight away to the point the freezer door will not close. Also the electric element doesn't work so I run was running it on gas. Its not so bad at $1.25 per gallon on propane but I know that price won't be around for much longer.
The thought of spending a hundred plus dollars on a 41 year old fridge doesn't thrill me and I have been checking out some of the larger dorm type fridges at Wal-Mart and the like.
Also, I keep checking craigslist and classifieds for a used fridge to swap out with. Sometimes I will find someone who is stripping out an older trailer for the frame and will sell the equipment out of them for fairly cheap. I hope to find a newer furnace that way as my Suburban NT30 is dead.

Sorry for the quote, it's been a while since I've needed the site. I need to replace the seal on a 44 year old Dometic RM60 (still works great) but the freezer ices up way too quickly due to a cracked seal. If anyone can give me a source and part number I'd be very greatful. I'm sure it will not be cheap but I love to keep my 73 25' as original as possible. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Best Michael
