Refrigerator vent caulk '04 Safari 25'

How does one gain access to caulk underneath the shrowd that covers the refrigerator vent where it exits the roof? I was checking the caulk condition today and found it in terrible condition but the shrowd is riveted to the roof making cleaning and caulking impossible unless rivets are drilled out . I was also looking around to see about installing an improved cooling fan for the refrig. and can't see how that's done either . This has really become complicated. HELP!
Thanks, Jim

When I did mine I made sure the outside of that vent was done very well. I tried the inside with limited success. Fingers and popsicle sticks or paint stir sticks dont work all that well but you can get some areas with them. Good luck on a difficult area.

Thanks Dan, I guess paint sturs or Popsicle sticks will smear the caulk on but cleaning the old caulk is going to be nearly impossible without better access.

Just take a sharp metal scraper and place it between the vent and exterior roof skin ,
hit the handle with a hammer and it will cut those rivets clean through .remove the cover
clean off old vulcum sealant ,pull out old rivet heads with pliers then apply new vulcum
and attach cover with new olympic rivets . It really is quick !

Thumbs up

I used 3m Extreme Sealing Tape to seal the skylight two Seasons ago, good job, easy and is holding up well. It would also cover and seal the rivet heads.

This looks like it could be a great product - but it sure is hard to find where to buy!

I bought both the 3M sealing tape and the 3M VHB at Amazon. Don't recall the seller but when I got the invoice it was drop shipped from the 3M Distribution Center right here in Buffalo. Do the google locally, never know.

Both VHB & EST are available on Amazon, shop around for best price.
