Refrigerator Restoration 1955 Silver Streak Jet

I was curious if anyone has had any experience with restoring the inside and outside finish on a fridge like the one in our 1955 Silver Streak Jet. The finish is a little warn and there's some rust on the inside. Also the compressor seems to run but it doesn't get cold. I guess the first order of business is to see if it can be charged and cooling. If so, is there a paint or coating that can mimic the original type finish? Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm working on restoring my marvel refrigerator. I took the door completely apart along with all other front pieces. I stripped most of the paint off and then sanded any remaining paint/rust starting at 320 grit on up. I'm having a local auto body repaint it for me but if you have the equipment I'm sure you could paint it yourself. I have some colors from my vintage stove i'm having them match. The marvel handle is getting new chrome. Ed
