Refrigerator not working on elect.

I am probably going to sound really dumb but my refrigerator was off even though we were plugged in. We had the propane off because we found we have an issue out by the tanks and until we get it taken care of, have shut of the gas. When I found the refrigerator was not on and tried to get it to start I could hear the pilot trying to light. Why wouldn't it switch to electric?
I know this will probably give some of you a good laugh. There is a lot I have not figured out yet. I hope I don't hurt anything or blow up while learning.

Check to see if the refrigerator is getting AC power. Check breakers (turn them off and then on to reset, just pushing them to on wont do anything). Then check to make sure the outlet the refrigerator is plugged into has power if it still doesn't work.

Is the circuit that the refrigerator is plugged into live? Check the circuit breakers in the panel, but also plug something else like a light into the outlet that feeds the refrigerator to see if there is power there. That outlet is often hard to get at or see, but open the outside service panel for the refrigerator and follow the cord from the refrig (often white) to the plug and outlet.

Sometimes a previous owner will have unplugged the refrigerator to force it to remain on gas, so there even is a possibility it is not plugged in at all.
