refrigerator igniter

Help,I have a 65 landyacht with its original frige, however i am disabled and have a problem with getting on the floor ,laying on my side and pushing in on the pilot button while trying to spin the ignitor wheel to get a spark all too much for me. I read somewhere, some time, in the past where someone, adapted a device that with a small battery and some sort of electrode created a spark that would light the gas flame . I am handy and certainly could install such a device if someone smarter than myself could point me in the right direction.Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Carl

You should be able to access the rear of the refer(this is where all the control knobs connect to there valves etc.) outside the trailer through a door. You can simply hold the valve down and light the pilot light with a lighter. My ignitor pushrod is broken and thats how I light the refer.
hope this helps
Jack

I am having a similar problem, the push rod igniter seems to be dead (no spark). I was wondering if it was safe to manually light the pilot from the rear. I guess I will give that a try this evening.
