Remove the cover from the burner area and have someone attempt to light the ref. You should see or rear the igniter sparking against the burner.

If you do not have a spark you may have a bad board or coil.

If you are see or hearing a spark and the burner still will not light you may have air in the gas line and the pilot valve can not bleed it off. Crack the gas line at the ref. just long enough to smell gas and tighten it down and try again.

If you have gas and spark but the resulting flame is poor in shape or colored mostly yellow rather than blue you most likely have a spider in the burner tube. Remover the burner tube and clean it.

Odds are it is one of the last 2 comments as apposed to a bad electrical component.

refrig will not light

Thank u howie. I tried! bled until gas came out -I pulled the gas solinoid off and there was corrosion on the shaft of the valve where the coil fits around.I read close to 12vat the leads going into the coil.I tried to relight and it lit. the electric ignition kept sparking for 30 sec or so but after that the flame went out. The flame was blue and I thought the prob was solved but no.does anyone have any ideas?? thanks

There should be a thermocouple probe just above and in the flame. That is the proof of flame and once satisfied holds the gas valve open for continued flame. Make sure the probe is in the flame. Another help might be to loosen the nut that holds the probe in the main gas valve and retighten to insure a good contact.
