Propane/Electric Refrigerator

I have a dual powered refer. and it works ok electrically but not when using propane. I have opened the outside vent accessing the back of the refer. and checked the ignitor. I am getting ignition and gas flow. I also noticed that there is alot of rust accumalation under the flame arrester. Looks like the rust is coming from the heat exchanger that is fixed above the flame arrester. Could the heat exchanger be corroded to the point that it no longer functions or is there something else to check???

Refrigerator burners and flue's must be cleaned every year or two, depending on usuage. Everyone goes through the same problem that you now have. Be careful when you clean the flue, as there is a spiral twisted steel heat retainer, within the flue. You must remove it to clean the flue properly, and then reinstall it. The burner must be disassembled, cleaning all the rust particles that have settled in it or the mounting base, and then reassembled. A proper flame is a "MUST" for proper cooling. Just seeing a "flame" is not adequate. Andy

I read somewhere that we just need to tab the pipe with a screwdriver handle and then suck it with a vacuum cleaner. Is this right? Is there anything else we need to know or watch out for? We have a 75 overlander with a 98-99 Dometic Silhouette.
