Talking Out with the old, in with the new

After reading this forum and digesting the information presented about refrigerators, I decided to replace my 17 year old failing unit with a new one. The tired unit is a Domentic RM-3604 and the replacement is a Domentic RM-2920. The new unit is 2 inchs wider, 2 inchs deeper and 7 inchs taller. Lots more interior room in both the freezer and the lower unit. Needed to modiy the compartment used to house the refrigerator. Luckly there is a cabinet above the old unit. When you enter the Airstream, the refrigerator compartment is directly to the left and has 3 light switchs in the wall. These bulky switchs had to be replaced with smaller toggle switchs to make room for the new unit. The results are fantasic - lots more room for wine and frozen shrimp.

The big caution when doing this kind of modification is insureing you have sufficent clearance and ventilation for the new unit. As most of you know, there have been serveral fires associated with Domentic refrigerators and the fix was installing heat shields

Nice job on the install. It looks like it was built that way to begin with.

Thanks for sharing the pictures.
