Original Refrigerator Replacement '67 GT

Hello.

I am going to have to replace my original 1967 Dometic original refrigerator because it's too unreliable.

The model is MA 35. The google search shows little to nothing on that model but that is what is stamped on the metal plate. The Dometic replacement chart does not show that model.

I have taken measurements of both the size of the fridge and the size of the opening. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what model to replace this with? It is located in the original position as seen in the 67' Globetrotter models. Left of the sink.

Also, are there any measuring hints you can give me so I don't make a mistake in ordering it over the internet?

Not much info out there and if I can shorten my research process that would be great! Thank you.

Thanks for posting this question to the Forum experts. I'm replacing the fridge in my 66 Trade Wind and have the same process to go through as you do. I hope someone who has successfully replaced the fridge in their vintage Airstream will give us some hints on the best method. I think there is more to it than getting something close that fits in the cabinet opening.

Can you post the measurements of the opening in the cabinet?
Have you removed the old refer?
There may not be an exact replacement from either Norcold or Dometic. Some minor modification to the existing opening may be required.

I replaced my refrigerator in my 65' Safari. It is free standing so measurements were not necessary for it to fit. Is yours freestanding, star kitty and thumbelinadj? I bought mine from Camping World...

I have used National Refrigeration more than once ( I now have a 64 Safari He repaired) Leon offers New,Rebuilt or factory seconds. They are located in Shipshewana Indiana. Leon is an Amish merchant and very honest many of my TCT friends have used him. It might be possible for him to rebuild yours or he might be able to ship you the parts you need. My 66 Trade Wind cabinet opening is 40" high by 22" wide by 22" deep. Mine has the belly pan vent instead of a side panel vent. I suppose there is a good 10" required behind the fridge for proper "chimney" air flow. So I need a fridge that fits in this type of opening.

Looks like a Dometic RM 2510 would be the closest fit.

According to my dimensions and research, the Dometic Americana 2351 will fit.

Do you need a certain amount of space in the rear of the refrigerator for the floor vent if your replacing it with a newer model?

Also, whats the deal with this unit not coming with a door panel? They don't even offer a door panel and the owner has to manufacturer their own? I'd rather just buy one.

3" between the rear of the coils and the inner skin of your coach should be enough. You may get by with less given the size of the refer.
I replaced the panel on our refer with Formica. Cut to size, it was a simple slide in job.

The Dometic 2510 is a very good refrigerator, I have one in my 20' Argosy. I lifted the counter top to have a taller unit in the trailer for more refrigerator space.

In addition, the 2510 does not require 12 volt power for anything but the initial lighting of the flame. It is an old school refrigerator in that it has a two stage flame and once lit, does not require 12 volt power. So it is very good for Boondocking as it will not run your batteries down at all.
