old dometic gas problem

I am currently camping with our 74 Airstream and developed some electrical problems, unrelated to the fridge. When trying to start the fridge on gas, I get a pilot light, but it goes out after I release the lever you're supposed to hold out while sstarting. I've tried it repeatedly, and it still doesn't light. We've had it lit other times, but not yet this year. Are there any tricks to lighting it, or is it just that things need cleaning???

After the pilot lights do you hold the lever out for any amount of time. I need to hold mine for up to a minute to heat the thermocouple.

It says to hold for fifteen seconds, and I hold for much more than that. Probably at least a minute one of the start times.

The thermocuple is probably kaput. Check to see that the flame is heating it first. It may have gotten moved.

How better to use your 500th post than for a fellow member in need:

Hello. Thanks for the info, but I don't think I found my fridge, its' a 74 fullsize, and those listed were smaller versions or newer models, but I did look things up in owners manual to check my model number, and found some helpful inof there. No diagrams, but it did say cleaning the fllue should be done every 6 months. BTW, noticed you make your home in ohio... I highly recommend cape may, nj and the depot trailer park there. Great place, cool parking, and nice weather, should your venture this way.
