We are planning a lengthy trip starting in May. Since we "fresh feed" our pooches, we are needing an ancillary portable 12V freezer capable of holding 40 - 50 pounds of frozen food (this consists of mixes containing muscle meat, organ meat, vegetables, supplements, etc. - not available at the local grocer or pet store, typically). Last year we did the cooler/dry ice routine while out for two weeks and it was a hassle, to say the least.
Thought it might be worth the investment and have looked at the Engels, Norcold, and Dometic portable freezers online.
Any forum members use a portable freezer and have any recommendations or feedback for us?

Here is one solution, 3 way freezer or you might check out Camping World Neither unit is what I would consider inexpensive, but they are a possibility.

I have used the 5 day cooler by Coleman. It works beeter than my fridge.The only catch you have to put ice in it every few days. The "blue" ices may be a better pic. I would buy about 24 "blue ices" and run 12 at a time in the cooler and put 12 in the freezer. This new cooler is muxh better than the "regular" type. I keep my cooler in the big side compartment on the driver side of my MH right before I leave on my trip I put in a ton of drinks and stuff load up with two bags of ice and I am good all weekend. Even when the roads get hot the cooler stays nice and cold.Jim
We have a Norcold fridge in our bus conversion. Compressor model that runs off 120 volt AC or 12 volt DC. Norcold also makes smaller units with compressor. Works well for us. Cools down FAST, too.
After reviewing the information, I really like the Tundra TPD23 portable model best. The Norcold at Camping World looks great but it does not look as portable. The others were more for built-ins, so it appears.
Have you tried sailorsam's.com?The marine freezer may work well for your dogs. I too am looking at a larger tundra ref/ frez. So let me know if you find a good price. I do know however that the book I have recommends putting 2 inches of insulation around the tundra to make it super efficient. ARB Makes one. My buddy has it and I'm impressed. His knick name is the Ice Cream man. It will keep food frozen with an outside temp of 95degrees no problem.
