model number for 1963 Dometic?

Our '63 Ambassador came without the fridge, and we'd like to try to replace it with a used one. Does anyone know the original model number for the Dometic refrigerator for this trailer? Searching the forums I came up with RM35 as a possibility. Has anyone had luck finding a used refrigerator from that era? The cabinet dimensions we have, which may have been modified, are 21 " wide, 24-25 " deep, and 25 -47" tall (depending on whether we have to remove a bottom shelf and drawer.) Any advice would be appreciated!

The RM35 nominclature is, I believe for a 3.5 cu.ft. fridge like in our '64 GT. Your Tradewind would have had a larger one, as each incremental size of trailer came with a incremental sized fridge "back in the day".

Yes, firdges of this era can be found at RV salvage yards, however, most will be in a sorry state of disrepair. If you do find the right one, if can sometimes be fixed, however it is costly to do so.

Your best bet IMO is going to be to place an ad in our "wanted" section of the AirForums classifieds. Maybe someone with a similar age trailer will be stripping their guts out for a remodel and will have a donor for you.

Good luck in you quest!

Shari

Thanks, Shari. I didn't know how easy it would be to find one, but I had to start with finding out what model we needed first. We may end up with a cooler in the back of the pickup for awhile. I'll try the classifieds!

I've got a used frig that came with my coach (not original), that is available. I can check the model number, if you wish.

Here is a link to a chart by Dometic. It shows the size of many of the older units and the current models that can be used to replace them.

used fridge?

Spiffy Gem - I'd be interested in that model number, or dimensions if you have them.
Thanks!

It's a Dometic RM2501 gas electric (2way) fridge made in Sweden.

I have measured all dimensions two ways: both with and without the face/door lip.

Its unofficial measurements (my measuring) are:

Width:
Without face lip: 21.5 inches
With: 23 inches

Depth:
Without: 22 5/8th inches
With door: 24.5 inches

Height:
Without: 39 15/16th inches
With face lip: 40 5/8th inches

Thanks, Calvin. Those dimensions might work for us. I'll send you a private message and we can talk over the details.
