Low Temp Switch

The refrigerator on my Classic has a low temp switch. According to the manual, it is to be turned on when the refrigerator is operating in low external temperature situations. Interestingly enough the manual has no definition as to what "low temperature" is.

Has anyone done any study as to when to activate this switch and more importantly, what does it really do? I've never used it.

My gut feeling is it might allow the heat source to become hotter than normal to compensate for lower temperatures of the ammonia water mix.

Hi, Jack,

I think that it either activates a small heat strip in the storage compartment or simply keeps the fridge light on with the door closed.

It has to do with cold air infiltration from outside acting on both the freezer and fridge compartments, which tends to make them both nearly at the same temperature, I'm guessing. Maybe the fridge just needs a little warmth to keep it operating.
