Question Looking for Dometic parts (discontinued model)

Hi folks,

I think I got ripped off a year or so ago when someone replaced my old Dometic, in a 1986 345 MH, with a refurbished unit, but did not supply the parts to allow the thing to run on propane. Now I find from another Airstream dealer folks in Portland that the parts are discontinued. I'm hoping someone here is parting these out?

2943298030 (solenoid) and
3108706.023 (gas valve)

I don't have the model number for the fridge with me, that would take some digging, I'm just hoping the part numbers are enough for someone to answer me.

As I recall Mr. Kahler was parting out his 345 MH, so I'll PM him, too.

thanks!

I am thinking that maybe you dont need the model specific parts, and one of several gas valves and solenoids will work for your fridge.

Mr. Kahler was kind enough to donate that fridge to me. I've used some parts for my fridge and donated some to other Air Forums users. I don't remember the model number, but can check it tomorrow. I will also check to see if the part numbers are on the parts. I will PM you with my findings. You can have the solenoid and valve if they are the same.

Dometic Model #RM2807

Hey 3 Dog Nite,

I just heard from the service department that the fridge is in fact RM2807.

I've got all my toes and fingers crossed that you've got those parts!

Tx!

There are a lot of RV refrigerators replaced in total, every year. Since the Dometic is not exclusive to Airstream, you may find that if you go to an RV dealer of any brand they have refrigerators that have been removed and replaced and are waiting for the trash to pick them up. It might take some searching and talking nice but you can find a treasure trove of old Dometic parts that way. Often the business would be very happy for you to take the total unit with you, as it is costly for them to dispose of them. So, don't just ask for parts, ask if they would like you to take the whole unit.

I scored a very nice working Norcold 12/120 volt swing motor compressor refrigerator that way once. The dealer was replacing it with a propane unit and the old one was in the trash compound on the property. Their comment "sure, take it, saves us money on disposal".

Looking for Dometic parts (discontinued model)

My coach is a '74 with the original refer. I found the parts I needed. Safety valve etc. on eBay. You just have to do some searching. Specific part numbers are big help.

OK Jenniflow, Here's what I've come up with. My parts list for the RM2812 showed the same part numbers you have listed in the 1st post. However, the numbers on the valve and solenoid from the fridge are different. Maybe a previous owner of the fridge had to replace them already. Look at the photos to see if they are the same as yours, if you have them. I'll list the numbers here just in case they don't come out in the photos. The numbers are on the solenoid part. There are no numbers on the valve part. Brand is ASCO or ASGO made in Netherlands. Maybe you'll want to buy the replacement parts new for reliability reasons if you can find them. Print the photos off and bring them in to your local parts place. Let me know what you decide.

jimmini,
I don't see that relay part number on my parts list. There was not a relay listed at all. If you're thinking about the main board, it did not come with the fridge. Sorry.

Thanks 3 Dog Nite, I'm checking with the folks who have my coach. I probably won't hear from them for a couple of days.

jimmini,
Maybe it has something to do with the model number. Mine is a RM2812. Yours is a RM2801.

My AS MH is a 1989 year model. As far as I know, the RM2812 is original.

Either way, I don't see the part number you posted on my parts list. I looked up the parts list online for your model. I found it at appliancezone.com. They have it listed as 2007329010MC. Type 2007329010 in the parts search. $29.40. Sorry I don't have a free one to send you.

Still waiting for the parts ID

Hi 3 Dog Nite,

Just letting you know that I am still hot on the trail of the part IDs for those you mentioned. The guy who handles this at the garage is out recovering from shoulder surgery, but he should be back soon and will let me know what he can use.

Thanks again ...

Thought I had responded

Hi 3 Dog Nite,

So sorry, I thought I'd gotten back to you.

The folks at the service department I'm dealing with are nervous about the decay on the parts in your pics and they also believe them to be slightly different from the ones that need to be replaced so they aren't comfortable using them for this job. I wish it could work easily, but it looks like it's not going to.

Thanks so much, though. I'm hoping more parts will surface somewhere.

Question Revisiting the Dometic parts issue

Well, it's 2019 and I'm trying again to solve this Dometic problem! I had a little hiatus because we weren't using the coach.

Come to find out that the folks who sold me the fridge without the parts, Cranes, in Vallejo, are out of business. Oh well. I was hoping they'd fix it for me.

I'm starting the parts search again. I'm trying RVdrgeorge.com.

Jimmini, did you ever solve your parts problem?

3 Dog Nite, here's what you said earlier. It sounds like you're saying that you have or had a similar fridge that these other parts worked for? I'm afraid I never quite understood whether you were speculating or whether you knew they would work:

"OK Jenniflow, Here's what I've come up with. My parts list for the RM2812 showed the same part numbers you have listed in the 1st post. However, the numbers on the valve and solenoid from the fridge are different. Maybe a previous owner of the fridge had to replace them already.
