How do I light my Dometic M16c refrigerator?

I have a '61 Bambi with a Dometic M16c refrigerator. I would like to know how to light it to see if it works. Anyone out there with a similar unit?

My thanks in advance.

Hi Nancy, I think this manual covers that fridge. Look here. http://bryantrv.com/docs2/docs/M52.pdf

Hi Dollijean57, did you figure it out?

I went through the manual and it doesn’t seem to cover the actual lighting procedures. I’ve tried manually heating the thermo flame-out protection device and lighting the flame, but can’t get it to go.

Thanks Aaron. We were unsuccessful in getting too cool, got it lit though. Just went with a newer Dometic and fabricated the old door to fit the new door. It turned out great. Thank you for the follow up.

Ohhhhh, I like that idea!

The previous owner said that the fridge was working when he tried it (while gutting the trailer) and nostalgic side of me really wants to keep the original appliance working in this 61’ Bambi. Put the practical side of me likes the idea of blending the original door with a modern fridge behind it ... Oh now the tough decision.

Just as an update for anyone searching in the future, I got it to light. Previously when I was trying to heat the flame-out safety shutoff, I was using a lighter and it didn’t get hot enough to open the shutoff and let the gas flow through to the burner. I picked up a new butane torch today and got the shutoff valve to click open after about 15 seconds with the torch.

I thought the same way and was insistent on using it but then did some research on Ammonia gas and how if it crystallizes its pretty much shot and if it leaks it can kill you . Sometimes flipping them upside down for a day, flip it back over it can break apart the crystals and can heat up again. I dont mind the way it looks on the new fridge and everyone likes the way it looks. If by chance you have Instagram you can check out the restoration of my 57 DeVille @dollijean57
