Household fridge

Who has put in a household fridge instead of a fridge that can also run off propane? Do you regret doing that? Did you have to have a huge solar and battery bank to run it so you can boondock?

Household appliances are not made to withstand the shock and vibration in a trailer. Lots of folks do use them.

Household Refrigerator in Airstream?

My 1964 Overlander had a household refrigerator when I purchase it in 1995, and I quickly learned it just was not practical if you really wanted to use the Airstream as it was intended. The smaller household refrigerators aren't typically very well insulated so do not maintain temperature very well when disconnected from electricity during and extended days travel. The typical compressor in the smaller household refrigerators aren't as efficient and aren't necessarily practical to operate on an inverter.

I ended up replacing the household refrigerator in my Overlander with a Dometic 3-way refrigerator that permits me to use LP, 12-volt DC, or 120-volt AC for power. I like to travel with my LP tanks turned off so I use the 12-volt DC when traveling. I have utilized this setup since 2000.

Good luck with your investigation.
