Fridge Vent Screen?.
I just pulled my fridge vent all the way out to reseal it with sikaflex. Trying to stop my leak I get behind the fridge.
I put the chimney part back on. But before I put the top piece back on, I was wondering if it needed a screen like the plumbing vents do.
If so, how is it attached? What kind of screen would I need since it's likely to get hot?

Hey Tim, thanks again for the DVD. That was very kind. If it was me I'd put a screen over it - why not. I don't know how hot it gets....you could use a metal mesh with a hose clamp to hold it on but then you'd have a rust issue eventually. Maybe fire it up and hold a thermometer there to check temp on a sunny day as well. If it's not too hot you could try the fiberglass mesh screen. Then again, if it gets that hot and you use it enough whatever tries to fly down there and nest will leave the first time you fire it up. I bought an aluminum bbq grill tray (for vegetables) and I cut it up to use as a screen for the inflow vents on my fridge and hot water heater. It was easy to cut and shape.

OEM screen is a 1/4 inch hardware cloth galvanized. Cut to fit plus a half inch all around. Bend it over the edges and rivet with standard pop rivets using an aluminum rivet backup washer on the top side to hold the screen in place. Once you put the cover back on it will not be visible and it will keep 90% of the bad bugs out. Skeeters and gnats will just have to try to find a crevasse in the flue or cabinet to get through.

Tin - Your welcome glad you enjoyed it!
Brett - Any idea where I could get 1/4 inch hardware cloth galvinized locally? Would camping world have it?
There must not have been a screen on originally since there are no rivet holes on the top to hold a screen on.

It's a standard item sold by the foot at any decent hardware store.

Thanks!
It was easy after the pro's here told me how to do it
I wasn't planning on doing this so quickly but I have a rivet shaver coming on loan so I wanted to get all my olympic riveting done.

That's why I used 1/4" mesh instead of the 1/8"
