Fridge freezing in ice box but 60+ in main compartment
Fridge freezing in ice box but 60+ in main compartment...
Hey guys. Got a 08 17' Safari Sport and love it but can't figure out this refrigerator. Scheduled to take it into Airstream but they are saying can't do much as it is one complete unit and replacement is about all that can be done. Well $1200 plus labor tax etc not my cup of tea.
The exterior fridge covers first are a complete design flaw and by them selves let water pool up and then leak into camper (Not Good). We modified them with plastic but keeping more hot sir in behind fridge so guessing that's my second problem. More hot air around the fins making it run hotter than normal. Currently trying to vent it out now with desk fan in top area behind fridge and leaving covers off. Going to recheck in 3-4 hours.
****Does anyone know of any replacement covers I can put on and scrap the factory ones. Really don't want the water leaking back into camper but need the air flow. Seen on other posts people are using computer fans which is a great idea and might end up trying later. **** Even Airstream said there was a problem with the factory fridge vent covers but Airstream hasn't said there was a solution. hmmmmm,.....
Fix one problem to create another problem but one for suggestions.
How long have you had the fridge on? And what temps are you seeing in the freezer section?
My old Dometic will get the freezer compartment down below freezing in just a few hours, but in the Texas summer takes more than 12 hours to get the fridge section down below 40. By the time the fridge is at 40, the freezer is in single digits.

Update. Thanks for the posts. Yes it was a circulation issue over fins on back of fridge. The desk fan worked but will have to figure out a modified cover to go over the fridge vents leading to outside stop increase circulation but keep rain water out. Any ideas. If you want your fridge to work keep air flowing over the rear fins. Freezer was freezing water and fridge got down to 40 degrees (80 outside). Only checked after 3 hours and tempt was normal. Had small fridge fan on batteries inside.
Also think My 2008 came with 2 way LP and electric power.
