fridge cooling fan is on but fridge is not running

Just got home from a week-long trip in my '08 23D CCD. Had the fridge running the entire time on either gas or electric. Cooling fan was running the entire time (as it should, especially with the hot temps in NE and CO). Unloaded the trailer and fridge this afternoon and shut the fridge off. But the fan continued to run. It continues to run unless I turn off the 12-volt power. I can't figure out why. Anyone have an answer?

I believe, or at least I have been told, that there is a thermocouple that keeps the fan running for awhile after you turn the fridge off. I had the same question 5 years ago and found out that if you hang around for a bit the fan will eventually stop running when the compartment cools to a certain temperature

There is a thermoswitch providing power to the fan. If it is still hot on the fridge fin where it is located the fan will continue to run.

That said, they have been known to get stuck turned on. If the fridge compartment and switch is cool to the touch and the fan is still running, it's time to pull the fuse so it won't kill your battery. Leave yourself a note that the fuse is pulled to save troubleshooting time. Don't ask why I know that😀😀

Nite: Some have installed switches to cut off the fan noise, or used quieter computer fans.

After several hours, the fan has stopped running. The very hot temps here (around 90) probably had something to do with it.
Thanks for the replies!

Hahnstead, our FC20 has two doors with the fan in the upper door. Not sure what your setup is.

We swapped out the fan for a new and much quieter and more efficient Silex computer fan and that helped immensely. However what really helped was the spot on suggestion by Silvergate at

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f425...an-151523.html post # 11

when it's off, it's really quiet

Here is my post re the new fan and open door policy

the new fan was the best $20 I've spent on the AS

good luck

Bob

We just disconnect the cooling fan at the coupler because the fan is controlled by temperature of the space behind the frig.
