work...but if the ammonia is still within the sealed cooling unit but just 'settled wrong' from being unsed for a long period of time or used on unlevel ground. If you can smell the ammonia, it most likely has all leaked out and burping won't do it any good. Our manual instructed turning the fridge upside down overnight a couple of times. We never smelled the ammonina leak on ours, which is why we tried the burping routine first, if we had, we won't have bothered.

It depends on the year...our's was old enough to not have an easily replaceable cooling core. We had to have ours repaired & rebuilt
. It too ran about $400 dollars...but it was worth it for us to keep the vintage era fridge.
