Finding Original Vintage Refrigerators

We're not ready to start the redo of the '58 World Traveler yet ('67 Safari was first in line), but constantly have it in the back of our minds. The only original piece we are missing is the refrigerator, which was most likely a 2-way dometic according to the info we found while digging and based on the "T" in the gas line by the fridge opening.

So does anyone have advice for finding an original fridge we could work on refurbishing? We want to bring "Alice" the '58 as close to original as possible because of her history. I know we can always post want ads and watch for anyone who's gutting a 50's model. We'll also plan to contact some of the RV salvage yards to see what they have. But if there's any other trick to finding a vintage fridge, or if someone happens to know of a dead one sitting around, we'd love to hear about it!

Original refrigerator search

Jay & Sherri,
This business may be able to help you find what you need for the '58. I find them listed in RV magazines all the time and have kept their info for future needs. National RV Refrigeration located in Shipshewana, Indiana. Their business phone number is 260-768-7059. The ad says they work on both Norcold and Dometic gas fridges. Specializing in re-charging and complete sales and service. Hope this helps... Please let me know if they were of any help in your quest. Happy Trails, Ed

Hi Ed,

Thanks a ton! Should have known to start our search in INDIANA! We don't subscribe to any RV mags, so that's exactly the kind of advice we were looking for!! We'll start our search with a call to them. Thanks again!
