Dumb Question?

OK so I may be an idiot but better safe than sorry. My fridge in my 78 is original and works great on electric. I have no plans to hook it up to LP because those components look less than healthy. The whole venting hood, etc is primarily for use on LP correct? I have no plans to remove the venting but I just want to make sure.

Yes the vent is just for the gas side of the system.

The electrical heating unit is inside the same structure but does not need the chimney effect to operate.

I believe the venting is still necessary as the only thing different is the heat source.
While you are not concerned with venting combustion byproducts it is still necessary to have good airflow around the coils for optimum hot weather operation.

The day may come when you want to travel and propane operation will be needed also. Electric only is way too limiting

The venting and vent duct to the outside is absolutely necessary, propane or electric. It removes the heat from the refrigeration part of the unit, as well as the heat from the electric resistance heater itself, which is on the side of the propane vent chimney, and takes about 250 to 300 watts to operate.

My comments were directed to the chimney above the gas flame. The fact that both the gas and electric systems are within the chimney was what I ment by that chimney vent not being necessary for the electric heater.

Yes the roof vent and side wall vent are necessary for the operation of the frig for both heating systems
