I believe the venting is still necessary as the only thing different is the heat source.
While you are not concerned with venting combustion byproducts it is still necessary to have good airflow around the coils for optimum hot weather operation.
The day may come when you want to travel and propane operation will be needed also. Electric only is way too limiting
