Door Lock

Does anyone know if the Dometic refrigerator in my 1983 excella ever had a door and freezer lock? Also how does the 12v option on the refrigerator work?

Hi Tom,

I don't remember have any locks on the Dometic that was in mine. The 12v is for the control board only, not to run the refrigerator. According to the Dometic AES (Automatic Energy Selector) service manual page A-6-2, 1983 was the first year for the automatic system to switch from AC to propane. The 12 volts powers the control board for the AES.

I have attached the Dometic AES service manual. Hope it helps.

Stay cool, both inside the fridge and out.

On edit, I see in the manual a reference to priority that speaks about the priority of power sources that does refer to running on 12 volts, but this manual covers several years. I don't remember mine have the capability to operate on 12 volts, and yours is the same age. Whether it does or not, the AES system should take care of the choice for you.

Well I found that it definitely had a travel latch. Does anyone know where to find the replacement latch at? It is a model #919-3896 RM 100.

Thanks Vaughan for the PDF I saved it for later. It will come in handy. Lots of good stuff in there. I thought only programmers for computers used flow charts back then. Really nice. I will go next week to get the new A/C. As I said I went with the 15,000 Penguin with drip pan. No heat strip they changed the model and it will not allow a heat strip. They did this last week. That is according to Dometic tech boy's mmmm. I am looking forward to getting it fixed for sure.
