Dometic vs. Norcold

Curious to know what preferences are for refrigerators, which companies.

thanks

I have been installing Norcold units lately. Not for any other reason than I build from scratch and don't need to adhere to Dometic's dimensions.
If you are replacing an existing fridge, then go with the recommended replacement for your trailer model. More than likely you will end up with a Dometic product. If you are willing to modify the refrigerator cabinet, then you can choose either. In reality, both brands are very fine products. Norcold is made in USA. Dometic is a Swedish brand, with manufacturing in many countries.

I chose Norcold. Required a few modifications, but not too bad. You can see details here: Norcold N841 IM Replacing a Dometic RM 1303 AES

A little over a year later, I am still very pleased.

Hi, thanks that is a huge help. The Dometic looked good, I liked the, um, control panel. The automatic function sounded kind of interesting, assuming that it really works- choosing the correct power supply by itself.

Thanks again

Our 2008 Dometic with the auto function really works great.

The old Dometic in my 1983 Excella was the first year for the automatic function. It worked great till the fridge self destructed. ie, the door seals wouldn't seal, shelves were missing, and it finally just quit.

All the new ones that I know of automatically switch over. It sure beats having to manually light one of the old refrigerators when switching to propane.

My ancient Dometic is still trucking along. It's the dinosaur manual switchover model. Nice thing is that parts are available all over the place...

wow, cool, thanks. I wish I had never tossed the one the Globetrotter came with- not original, but 3-way and it wasn't too disgusting. I had no idea how it worked or how expensive they were!

Right. If mine hadn't a been broke, I wouldn't a fixed it.

Really enjoying it now, though. A major upgrade off the potential list.
