Dometic RM-78?

I have a 1973 Dometic which I believe is a RM-78, hard to tell on the plate as it is scratched pretty bad. My problem is that it runs but will freeze up after several hours. I have replaced the seals with some that I made work off an old fridge. Was wondering if there was something else I should try or if it was worth taking to an RV shop for repairs? I have also thought of replaceing with a like sized house fridge as we rarely boondock.

Thanks for the help,

Mitch

I just had to have my Dometic in the shop for freezing, problem was the sensor on the inside clipped to the fins had slid down and wasn`t sending the true temp of the fins, check that ,and I hope it works. Dave

Thanks Dave,

Where would I look to find this sensor. Not much experience with fridges.

In the back of the fridge,[inside] you will see aluminum fins, between those fins is a piece of plastic,it just slips in there, behind it is a sensor with a clip holding it against the fin,if it has moved away from the back and off the fin, that could be the problem.Just reposition tightly against the fin.Hope it works for you,it cost me $95.00 to find out.
