I was wondering if the narrower 1971 model would have had narrow (or shallower) overhead cabinets than the newer wide body units? If the roof lockers are shallower, that could mean more custom cabinet work for a finished look.

Mine's an 1979. I believe it is 8 foot wide. I thought they were all the same width?

A few things.

On fridges, because of those sorts of minor size changes over the years, it is fairly typical to have to make minor cabinetry modifications when changing out the fridge.

Dometic has several models in that size range with the RM3762 being the newest. Price is comparable.

I have ordered from Adventure RV. They're OK and do have good prices however I have had problems with items taking longer than they should to ship, and have not been impressed with their customer service. I still use them occasionally if I'm not in a hurry. I've had better luck with Tweety's, Out of Doors mart, and Vintage Trailer Supply.

Thanks, Jammer.

I ended up getting the RM2820, which is closest in size to the original RM100. There is a comparison of the sizes under post #5 of this thread. So far most of my modifications are due to replacing panels that have deteriorated, although I expect to have to make some modifications.

I did purchase from Adventure RV. I got the best price by far, and the new unit was delivered in under 5 days.

Best,
-duckdave

I'm going to close out this report on the install of my RM2820. In the end the new unit caused the bottom of the China Cabinet to be about 1/2 to 3/4 inches higher, which called for redoing the interior shelving a bit, and downsizing the sliding doors. That part was not as difficult as it seemed at the start. Basically, just fiddling with the parts and piecing them together. Running 12 VDC to the cabinet turned out to be easy since there was an outlet in the credenza next to the fridge. I ended up buying the panels that finish off the front of the freezer and fridge doors. Looks nice, but I could have probably bought 2 pieces of black plexiglass for less (maybe not?).

I have just one remaining issue. The "case cover" that goes across the front of the fridge at the bottom (basically, just a strip of metal to close off the gap at the bottom) is too tall and won't fit under the hinges. Trying to get with Dometic to see if I have the wrong part. I suspect I'll be "adjusting" yet another part to fit in the end.

Over all we are very happy with the new fridge. Took it out for a spin on a trip to the Outer Banks and back for 2 weeks. I love not having to get down on the floor with a flashlight to start the fridge up, and the automatic switch from electric to gas is handy too.

Carry on!

According to that chart, the rm 100 is (hxwxd, inches) 55 7/8 x 23 11/16 x 24; and the rm2820 is 55 3/8 x 23 5/8 x 24. Pretty close---1/16" under on height and width---i can certainly live with this.

Further research…including dometic's site sometimes lists the rm2820 (rm2820 classic---are these the same?) as 57 7/8 x 24 39/64 x 24 9/16. That's quite a difference! Pretty hard to squeeze those extra two inches into a 55 7/8" hole. So which is it?

Further research…suggests that the rm2820 may not even be available any more.

So what to do? I'm pretty sure a new fridge is in my future. I've repaired the old one at least once and got a couple extra years out of it (marginal performance) and it's 35 years old for crying-out-loud. I know i might be able to find a new back unit (though these are getting very hard to find), but i think i'm ready for a simple r & r (remove and replace) with a new one.

I need to figure out what will fit in my fridge slot, and is it available. Recommendations about particularly helpful vendors, or places with particularly reasonable prices for purchase and shipping welcomed.

Oh, i see i need to update my sig lines. I'm now towing with a 2010 gmc 2400hd diesel.

Would your chart include any info about the size hole for a 1974 sovereign

Thanks, livia
