Thumbs up Dometic Refrigerator-RM100

We have 1976 Soverign and it is in pretty good shape. The only problem that we seem to have is that when we use the refrigerator with gas we cannot get it set where it does not freeze everything in the refrigerator part.
We wondering if it may have something to do with the altitude as we are at over 9,000 feet.
It does not do this when it is run on electric.

Any ideas?

All help will be greatly appreciated. I have had a lot of frozen fresh vegetables lately

I seriously doubt altitude is an issue.

It would appear you have a broken thermostat. The older Dometics had two thermostats; One for gas, one for electricity. How many temperature knobs does your unit have?

Hi Deb,

I am not a profesional rv service person, But I have some ideas for you from my service book. From what you indicate, it points to a problem with the thermostat, the knob you are turning to try to regulate the temp. It could be a faulty thermostat, an incorrectly locatedend of the thermostat capillary tube , an incorrect size of the bypass screw, or dirt in the thermostat valve.

The good thing is that from, your description , the cooling unit itself is ok, because you say it works fine on electric.

There are still parts available for the RM 100. Do an internet search.

Here is a # for Dometic technical service 219-463-4858.

Good luck

Dometic RM 100 and others, Service Manual

Since I am in the process of replacing my thermocouple and magnet valve on our RM100, I thought I'd share this with the group. This appears to be the service manual for many of our models. Good luck everyone.
