Dometic or Norcold?

Am I the only one who seems to hate this piece of XXXX Dometic fridge?

Freezer always works. Lower section ... halfway cools one day ... next day not working ... next day halfway cools ... next day not working. And I keep it plugged into electric at all times while in storage.

I'm tired of this unpredictable cycle and even more tired of placing bags of ice in the vegetable crispers to accellerate the cool down process in the lower section. And even more tired of constantly having my head stuck in the outside panel trying to figure out the problem.

I've replaced fuses, checked all the wire connections, can't get the propane to light, I'm ready to throw it in the trash.

Would you purchase another Dometic piece of XXXX or is Norcold an even bigger piece of XXXX?

And if I did purchase a Norcold, does that mean the current ventilation design would accomodate it or is it something completely different to vent which would require some rework?

I went with a Norcold a couple of years ago. There are a few issues due to a slightly different size, but nothing major. For me, the addition of an ice maker as an option was a factor in choosing the Norcold unit I bought. You can see details at http://www.airforums.com/forums/f425...aes-44474.html.

I agree on the Dometic - mine is coming out and going in the trash - unless some one wants it. It 'works' but not all that well. I looked at the Norcold, but just ordered a 6.8 CF Novacool DC marine fridge. This fridge is narrow enough to fit into the 21-1/2" cabinet opening in my Argosy - most of the others need a cutout of about 24"You might check them out, and also Vitrifrigo - made in Italy. They both offer DC and AC/DC fridges from small up to 9 CF. They both use the highly efficient Danfoss compressor.

I want ice and COLD beer.

I talked to the sales person I use at PPL rv parts the other day about the same issue. I was trying to decide what to go with in my Trade Wind. I was wondering if the difference in the money was worth going with the Norcold. She said that in her opinion, the Dometic was not as good as the Norcold. Said they have very few calls back about Norcold's. Just one person's opinion but PPL sells lots of rv refrigerators.
