Dometic M52 Refrigerator

I have a Dometic M52 gas only refrigerator in my 1963 airstream overlander. The pilot light won't stay lit. I have found out that the Klixon safety vavle does not work any more. I'm pretty sure that Dometic stopped making this type of fridge after '63. Does anyone have an old M52 fridge with a good valve i can buy, or know where i may be able to find one?

Thank you

Hamann63,

Welcome to the forums! I understand your problem because I have a Dometic M-50 in my '61 Overlander with the same Kilxon valve. I have posted here on the forums the service manaul for those old Dometics. I do not where to purchase a replacement. Just keep checking Craig's List, here, etc for an old unit. I know I have to hold the pilot button for as long as 5 to 10 minutes sometimes before I hear the "click" that opens the valve.

Good used Klixon valves are hard, but not impossible, to find. Good luck.

I had one in a 59 Mallard I redid. I figured if the burner ever quit on me I would just replace it with a burner and gas valve from a newer fridge that was junk from an ammonia leak. All it has to do is heat it, can't be that hard to do a retro fit. I would look for a burner assembly from a fridge about the same size.
