Dometic 2501

My Dometic 2501 refrig will not always operate on electric, but is OK on gas. This happened a couple of years back and the selector switch (off/gas/electric) was replaced. Well it is acting up again and I don't want to pop for another switch. Is it possible to wire in an indicator light to show when the refrig is working on electric...I'd rather not wait 24 hours and find a warm fridge! Any ideas on how to do this...I'm a novice at electrical things.
