Does anyone know what fridge came standard in a 1957 Overlander?

Hi, I have a 1957 Airstream Overlander I am just starting to work on. I am trying to figure out if the fridge in it is an original or if it was updated-because it sure looks like an original out of the 50s!

It's a Norcold, with generous space in the fridge and the doors, and minimal freezer space.

Any ideas? I cannot locate an owners' manual for this year, either....

I had a 1956, 26ft that had the original butane refrigerator. Big thing with very little freezer space. I guess there really wasn't much in the way of frozen foods back then. I suspect it was just space for ice trays.

If it's any help...

Our Ohio built, late-'56 has a Kreft gas/electric fridge that I know is original ~

My 1956 Overlander was equipped with the Marvel electric refrigerator (still working) and an electric water heater.

I'm looking for an original/restored fridge to put in the 58 Flying Cloud. The PO changed it to a Norcold in 1974, and although it works great, I'd rather have a period piece. (There is an ugly panel to cover up the hole-size difference.

Any ideas on where to source? Judging from the propane stubout and the flues in back, the orig. was a combo unit.

I'm looking for an old fridge too!

I purchased a '53 this fall, and everything is original except for the fridge. If anyone does know of a source for an old one, or a fridge that looks like an old one, I would love to have that information as well. Gail

Or....you could have your old one fixed if you still have it. We had our '64 repaired a couple of years ago and it still works great. Here's an old thread that has the info on ours.

Shari can you keep an eye out for one for us? We need a Kreft and haven't come across anything so far in the last 5 months.
