Can I repaint the inside of my vintage Domestic fridge?

Hi guys!

I have an old vintage Domestic in my 1975 Overlander that luckily works, but I would like to repaint the inside to give it a bit of a face lift. Can this be done? If so, what would you suggest using?

P.S. Sorry if there is already a thread on this..could not find anything!

I'd be sure that any paint I used *inside* a refrigerator, or any where that comes in contact with my food for that matter, is 'food grade' and non-toxic.

Krylon's standard aerosol paints are safe for use inside refrigerators. You'll need to rub over the surface with a 600 grit or finer sandpaper to help the paint grip or it will peel. After sanding, wipe out with soapy water to remove grease and dust, allow to properly dry, then paint. Only white or very light colors should be used - I recommend almond or biscuit for a natural vintage-appropriate color.

Leave the refer open for 48 hours in a low humidity environment to allow the paint properly cure before closing the door.

After sanding, go over the surface with a tac cloth. You can get tham at most auto parts stores. They are designed to clean a surface prior to painting and leave no residue. You may discover that after sanding the unit looks pretty good and may be able to just clear coat it to get the gloss back.
