Argosy Refrigerator

I have a 1975 Argosy 22 with the original refrigerator that can run on either gas or electric, have noticed while running under gas mode the fridge works fine while stationary, although when underway the gas option always goes out and will not stay on. Is this the normal behavior for this fridge or is there a pilot light setting or gas setting that I need to adjust in order to keep this working while underway?

Sounds like the burner needs a good cleaning.

That should be done every 2 years or so.

I do not know the answer to your question.

However, it is my opinion that best practice is
to turn off all gas fixtures when traveling.

Every Airstream model has its own set of airflow characteristics. In my Classic 28, the flame never blows out, but the box cooled poorly because of poor airflow over the fins in the back until I fixed it with a fan and shroud on the fins.

Some folks cut down fiberglass air conditioning filters to use as wind brakes inside the refrigerator rear compartment. In a previous Airstream, I bought a thin metal filter intended for an air conditioner. I cut it down to fit inside the finned door, restrained by two bent metal rods. When on the road, I put it in the door. It cured the flame outs. When parked, I removed it to allow full airflow.

The recent Dometic recall installed a shield that should help prevent flame blowouts.

Check to make your pilot light has a cover on it. The PO may have lost it. Clean the jet with alcohol, do not use anything metal to run through the hole you make it too large. A tooth pick works great.

I need to try the Metal filter idea. Running on lp is the only way to keep it cool on a long hot day of driving ...well unless you like spoiled food.

Good luck
