Anyone out there with refer as old as mine?

As far as I can tell, the flame looks great, exactly like you describe. I was so excited to have it that I snapped this pic looking from the exterior access door after it lit.

The first thing I'm going to try is making sure the trailer is level. I know it is level from streetside to curbside right now, but it may be out of level from front to rear. I'm open to any suggestions.

I have a long metal rod in the pantry on a hook ,looks like a device to reach the burner of your fridges ,has a square little apendage on the end for a match maybe ? was in the trailer there when i bought it .i have a dometic RM660 in it so the click I hear is the electric pushbutton start ,works good,
cold fridge ,the freezer isn't really icing ,but does get colder than the fridge
the door on the freezer is held closed by the fridge door ,should there be
some other type of latch ,no provision for it. RV cool ,any ideas on the 660?
It does need a new seal on the freezer door.

I went out last night and turned on the fridge at #7 ,this morning I realized I forgot to plug it in as it plugs in right above the counter on top above the fridge .So tonight its 40 degress in the fridge and the freezer is 4 degrees .
I haven,t tried the freezer since the last outing before I did a velcrow strip
on the top of the freezer door to keep it shut.Now ,it may not work as well
when its hotter weather ,but it does seem to be working good.I have never
seen frost in the freezer before .Today it was about 70 degrees outside.
Can i get a new door seal ? RM660 model?

RV Cool ,

Thats the correct size ,its white in color and about 1/4 wide .I would like to buy it .Is the door of freezer suppose to be held shut by fridge upper shelf
when closed? there is no latch ,but the velcro seems to have fixed the freezer as it was -2 degrees this morning and icy cold! .now do you have an upper shelf ,its a dark see thru 70s plastic ,got broken some how .

Below are some pics. If anyone out there has (or has had and remembers!) this type of unit, please look at these closely and tell me what you think. (The burner nose is what doesn't look exactly like the diagrams I found, to me. Tongue location seems about right, but not sure.)

Its amazing how one bubble out of plumb can affect one's life. I got the TW completely level yesterday, turned the refer thermostat to 9, lit the Klixon and hoped for the best. In about 20 minutes the freezer was 65 degrees. Four hours later, freezer at 30. Today, WOOHOO! I HAVE ICE. Never knew a chunk of frozen water sitting in a 46 year old ice box could look so good. Freezer is a frosty 18 degrees and the fridge was 30. Lesson learned, leveling IS important.

good to hear that...level is important, because the tubing in those units are pitched so the ammonia runs to the bottom. when the fridge is off level, it can disturbe the flow of the ammonia. Remember these don't have compressors, they rely on gravity to work.

Thanks RV Cool, so in this case with my refer, gravity is my friend, right? Too bad that isn't true for people as they get older!

I was so excited I got the klixon fired up and was able to make ice I took a picture of it . . . then didn't post it because I thought people would think I was nuts (which I am). Glad to hear you got it working again.

It is very exciting to get the fridge fired up an have it make ice like it did
40 years ago .Its also exciting to order Ogden water purifier carteidges for a
purifier thats has not been made for 40 years .very high on the COOL factor.

because I'm really frustrated!

My trailer has been stationary and in use merely as a guest room for the past 3 years, and so I've been slow to repair the inside door liner of the original Dometic fridge, to build a chase for the new vents I installed high and low behind it, or to find a new gasket for the door.

But now I'm getting ready to start using the trailer for camping, so working on fridge again, and had my RV tech out yesterday to work on a couple of other things.

He and I were BOTH frustrated because, although I've gotten the Klixon valve lit and the fridge working three times before -- most recently about 18 months ago with him -- NEITHER ONE OF US CAN REMEMBER HOW WE DID IT! I mean, I do remember having to hold heat on the Klixon a long time, but is there some obscure kind of gas valve to turn on first? There was nothing obvious to either of us, e.g., to push in or turn on while holding heat on the Klixon. But all we had were some wimpy grill lighters, so maybe that was the problem -- I'm hoping!

All the helpful-looking links on this thread are no longer functioning. Can anyone refresh my memory? Or do I just need to go get a mini-torch?
