Don't wire the switch inline with the therm-o-disc, if you do it will only turn the fan off when the fan should be running. If you want to be able to turn it on and off at any time it should be in parallel with the disc.

Stephanie,
You likely blew the fuse in the 12 volt cord. They are normally rated for 2amps or less and the two fans in series created too big a draw. The tip of the adapter screws off and the glass fuse is inside. replace it with a 10 amp fuse ant you will be fine. I would also incorporate a fuse holder before the fans so they don't blow out the main fuse for the circuit you are tapping into if one of the motors freezes up.

Glad you pointed that out John, that's actually what I was going to do & missed it. Also I'll be fusing it at the same time.
Best,

ok, I'll be sure and add a fuse to the system as well. Do I want it on the power or ground wire?
When the extension quit working I thought for sure I'd blown a fuse in the trailer! It was a relief to discover it was only the extension!

Fuse the 12 volt + side. The ground side does not need to be fused.

Therm-O-Disc
Hi Gang,
I did a search on Therm-o-disc and Grainger came up. I found a fan control that switches on at 110 deg F. and opens (goes off) at 90 deg F. The description is:
3F01-111
Snap disc fan control
Close on rise of temperature
Fixed setting
I believe their number is: 2E245B
Cost less than $10.00. Works like a charm.
Hope that helps.
Take care

finished!
Ok, I finally found the time to get back to this project. I found two computer fans, hooked them up in series so they are slow and quiet, and built an aluminum frame for them. I took my 12v cord with switch and ran the cord from the bathroom where it plugs into an accessory port above the closet, down through the closet, behind the stove, to the area under the sink, where I snaked it through a gap between the cupboard and the fridge. Then I screwed the fans to the back of the cabinet above the fins, and added a piece of flashing to direct all the air up and out the vent.
It runs, it's quiet, and it makes a gentle breeze. Probably the only downside is you turn on the fridge fan at the switch in the bathroom, which should confuse future owners someday. Now I just need to level the trailer so I can run the fridge and see how it works. Hopefully we'll have a fridge that can actually be trusted to keep more than pop cold this summer!

Good looking mod!
You could just wire the wire into the back of the 12 volt outlet and have a switch closer to the fridge, but see how they help first. I think you will be pleased. Ours make quite a difference in the temperature of the cabinet over it.
