'71 Dometic fridge question

im looking at purchasing a used fridge from a 71. it looks in great condition and there is only a slight bit of surface rust on teh back cooling system. my question is what temperature do these fridges usually run at on the inside. the perosn told me it kept a constat 41 deg on propane or electric. should it be a little colde then that?

also is there anything i can put on teh cooling unit to keep it from rusting any more. like por15? i have pictures of the fridge if anyone wants me to email it to them so they can check it out for themselfvs befor i make a mistake and loose money

The temperature will depend on where the thermostat is set and the outside temp (inside the trailer) If it's 120 degrees in the trailer , the refer may have a hard time. But you should be able to make ice in the freezer under normal circumstances. One most refers setting the temp at 5 should work for you.
You could sand the cooling unit lightly and paint it. But that seems like over kill to me.
