63 safari Dometic refer
opened the outside upper refer compartment and noticed a verticle tube w what I now know is a removable cap. There is a metal rod attached to the cap and I can move it up and down. Any insight on this one?

you talking about the top of the chimney right? That rod has a spiral plate on the end. It curls the heat up the chimney. Very important part and should not be messed with if you are not sure what you are doing.
