63 dometic dogged

I have what probably is the original fridge in my 63 ovelander. Its model #
is M50a and than its 75a 2000. Its a propane only model and when I light the pilot the flame seems to jump from the upper burner stone down to the area
near the burner jet...than after about a minute it goes out. Also the control knob never did much, it was either on or off when I turned it from 10 down
to zero. when it was working it was always real cold(icey). Is this fridge
worth it safe? Any comments appreciated. thanks much.
