2004 Dometic Failure

we had the "recall" done last year on our 2004 Classic Limited SOL. today, at the first day of a week long rally no less, cooling system failed. Green stuff all over the refer compartment outside. funny when we sold our '77 three years again the refer still worked and when we sold our '96 18mos ago, it's fridge was just fine.
someone here told me these certain recalled dometics had a failure whereby some would leak coolant, possibly on the burner, would cause a fire. Did the Dometic recall FIX the acuall problem (I thoght it did) no, it simply prevented the FIRE, not the cooling system failure.
someone else here with an 2003 had their cooling system replaced by dometic, and I guess I'll attempt the same. Anyone else had any luck with this? ie having the cooling system replaced on these defective units by Dometic?
Thanks
Dan

Dan,

Sorry to hear your frig. I have heard this happen before. I believe it may have been probable with the weld on the tubing. If you price out a repair vs a new unit it is better to get a new unit.

Thumbs up Reffer Madness

Dan, sorry to hear about the refer failure.

I just installed a new cooling unit in my 5 year old Domatic 2820. If you're the handy type you could save 600 bucks.

It was easy and gave me the chance to seal up the poorly designed wood cabinet enclosure, reinsulate and replace the exhaust fan.

I'll be posting a DIY shortly!

Michael

had no luck at all with Dometic, guess they have drawn the line in the sand about a year ago. Not very much goodwill for the customers.
new refer was 2600 (stainless wrap) or 1600 for new cooling unit. Left it at the in Burlington VT (where we were at the Region 1 Rally) will pick it up in a few weeks.
too bad Dometic does not stand by their products like ZipDee and Fantastic do.

Dan, which did you decide to do, new refer or new cooling unit?
