1974 Safari 23' - Exterior Turn Indicator

Replaced all exterior lights with LED, now the external driver side indicator does not work. My understanding is that the connection from tail/brake lights to side signal is via fiber optic cable (1974 technology?), and the LED does not provide adaquate illumiation. I don't want to go back to regular bulbs, but I do want to be able to see the indicators in my rearview mirror. Any suggestions?

The fiberoptic link is in the center of the rear light reflector which is lit up by the old bulb filament. Some LED lights don't have any light on the "back side" so the fiberoptic will be dark. You might try putting one of the old bulbs back and see if you can see it then.
