Not a bad ride height for towing. Looks like a very nice build. Pat

Cheers

Nice rig. Have you thought of putting disk brakes on the truck?

heh...yeah, over the past 40 years I've thought once or twice about putting disc brakes on the truck. But I haven't done it. Somehow Wally lived through his adventures with drum brakes. Maybe I can too?

Drum brakes in good shape work just fine. And no ABS, no problem for those of us who learned to modulate the brakes!

I just got back from a 5000 mile trip in an early Corvair with little drum brakes. No problems with stopping. Climbing hills, on the other hand, was a problem!

I put a 396 into the truck when I was still in high school...it was even more of a sleeper then, with it's brushed on house paint, plain steel wheels, etc. I used to drag race every weekend.

I had several of those 1980s GM diesels in classic pickups. Everywhere I went people told me what a mistake that engine was for GM. I laughed and told them to look at my odometer!

I too have the most reliable "unreliable" vehicle. It's a 1995 Jaguar XJS convertible; and everyone that comes up to me to talk about the car, speaks in hushed tones about how unreliable it is. I've had one electrical short other than basic maintenance; that's it.

It all depends on how you maintain the vehicle. If you don't maintain; even a Toyota Corolla will become unreliable.

Cheers

I loved my 85 jag. It was the retrofitted us components that gave me the most greef

When I gutted the 4 cats it ran like a raped ape!

On the brakes: as long as your trailer breaks are set right , the truck can handle itself.

I like your rig! Yes, as long as you know the limitations of your brakes drums work fine. I dream of discs on all wheels but I have no reason to hurry downhill or uphill anyway.

I love that set up, truck looks great towing the trailer. I tow with a 1970 c10 with drum brakes, no problems with stopping. I installed a very good brake controller, and have it adjusted properly, I drive within my safety limits.
