Used Safari Checklist?

We are new to the Forum, and this is our first post. We just bought our first AS (1970 Safari), and have not even brought it home yet! Because the interior and exterior are in such good shape, we bought it knowing that all the systems may or may not be in good working condition. Can anyone direct us to a good resource that may have a thorough checklist for us to use as a guideline? Then we can go from there to determine what gets fixing first! Thanks!

Hi MT and welcome to the Forums!

You can get a PDI (pre-delivery inspection) sheet from any Airstream dealer. I also have one but I don't have access to a fax as I'm on vacation. If you can't find one, PM me and I'll see if I can get it faxed to you.

As far as what to fix first you can find an excellent list/rationale on vintageairstream.com. Here is the link. http://www.vintageairstream.com/FAQ/...html#Restoring

The answer to your question of what to do first is about the fourth question down on the page.

First Make it Roadworthy...

First make it roadworthy; tires, wheels, brakes, bearings. Replace axles if necessary.

Second, make it functional. Get everything in working order; H2O system, H2O heater, furnace, fridge, air conditioner.

Third Make it esthetically pleasing and pleasant to use.

Projects become longer and more expensive when we do step three first only to discover that we must rip out that which we have already done to fix some problem with plumbing, wiring, or flooring.

I have a comprehensive checklist (Microsoft Word) that I use when asked to inspect an Airstream in my area. I will gladly send it to you if you ask by PM.

Used Checklist!

Not to piggy back on MTSafari, but we are in the market for a good used airstream and was wondering if anyone could send the information they sent to MTSafari our way as well...or if MTSafari wants to forward it. I grew up in Whitefish, MT, but currently live in Spokane. Any information would be great.

Motorhome Checklist

Is the checklist you are talking about just for trailers or does it include Motorhomes too? If someone has one for a Motorhome I would be interested in that as well.

Because this is a knowledge sharing forum we always encourage our members to post information rather than email or pm needed information. (unless its confidential of course) 9 times out of 10 there is somebody out there in desperate need of the same info. It would be a great resources for a checklist to be posted here for all to look at, especially those who are new and looking for start up information.

Welcome aboard

You will find lots of great advice here. When we first brought ours home I had another member here tell me the most important info I have ever gotten and that was before you do anything re-seal everything on the outside, vents, doors, windows etc do a search on sealing it's the most important thing in my book.

The checklist from klevan is a good all-purpose checklist, but I'm not sure how to post it! (Since it is a document and not a link.) If someone can tell me how, I'd be glad to share!
